To vectorize an image in Photoshop, convert your subject into high-contrast black and white using Threshold, make a selection, and convert it to a path. For better results, use the Pen or Curvature tools to trace, then save as an SVG or EPS file via File > Export As.

Steps to Vectorize in Photoshop:

Prepare the Layer: Duplicate your layer (Ctrl/Cmd + J) and hide the original.

Increase Contrast: Go to Image > Adjustments > Threshold to make the image purely black and white, or adjust levels to simplify colors.

Select Subject: Use the Magic Wand or Select Subject to select the black areas you want to vectorize.

Create Work Path: Go to the Paths Panel, click the panel menu, and choose “Make Work Path” (set tolerance to \(1.0\text{-}2.0\) pixels).

Export/Save: Go to File > Export > Paths to Illustrator to move the vector to Illustrator, or create a Solid Color fill layer to convert the path into a scalable shape layer.

Alternative Methods:

Adobe Illustrator (Best Method): Use the Image Trace feature for superior, automatic vectorization.

CC Libraries: Use the “Extract from Image” tool to convert shapes and save them to your library.

Online Converters: Tools like Vectorization.eu can be used for quick SVG conversion.

Note: Photoshop is raster-based; it cannot fully vectorize complex, multi-colored photos as well as Adobe Illustrator.

Vectorizing images in Photoshop is achieved by converting pixel-based layers into paths and shapes, primarily using the Pen Tool, Paths panel, and Color Range selection to create scalable graphics. For best results, start with high-contrast, simple images and consider using Adobe Illustrator’s Image for complex, high-quality vectorization.
