Here are the most important new features added to Lightroom Classic in 2025:

1. AI-Powered Selection & Cleanup

AI Dust Removal: Therefore, A major workflow saver that automatically identifies and removes sensor dust and lens spots across a single image or an entire batch.

Generative Remove (Enhanced): Now out of “Early Access,” this tool uses Adobe Firefly to remove complex objects. It includes a new “Detect Objects” mode where you can roughly circle an object, and the AI will snap the selection perfectly to the edges.

People & Reflection Removal: Therefore, the “Distraction Removal” tool now features dedicated modes to automatically find and remove background people or unwanted window reflections with a single click.

2. Smarter Organization (Assisted Culling)

Assisted Culling: This new feature uses AI to help you find the “hero” shots in a large shoot. It can identify the best photos based on focus, lighting, and whether the subjects’ eyes are open.

Visual Similarity Stacking: Therefore, Lightroom can now automatically group (stack) photos that look nearly identical. This is particularly useful for wildlife or sports photographers shooting in high-speed bursts.

3. Advanced Editing Controls

Adaptive Profiles & Presets: Therefore, New “Adaptive Landscape” profiles (Spring, Summer, etc.) use AI to apply specific color and tone adjustments based on the actual content of your raw files.

Point Color – Variance Slider: A “hidden gem” in the Point Color tool that allows you to increase or decrease the contrast of specific colors, helping you even out skin tones or make certain hues pop more naturally.

HDR Limit Slider: Therefore, it gives you precise control over the “headroom” of HDR images, allowing you to fine-tune exactly how bright the highlights appear on HDR-compatible displays.

Snow Masking: A new element in the Landscape masking tool that can specifically detect and select snow for targeted editing.

4. Workflow & Performance

Interactive Editing Speed: Significant performance boosts were added to the Crop, Brush, and White Balance tools. These tools now operate with much less lag, especially on high-resolution files or images with many masks.

Catalog Backup Management: A new dedicated panel in Catalog Settings makes it easier to view, open, and delete old backups to save disk space.

Native Sony/Nikon/Fujifilm Tethering: Improvements to tethered shooting, including the ability to select focus points directly from the live view window in Lightroom for many camera models.

Millisecond Precision: Capture time is now tracked down to the millisecond, which helps prevent burst-shot images from being incorrectly flagged as duplicates.
